COBY has a reputation for cheap stuff with adequate quality, but they will never win any “best product” awards. This MP3/video player would be mediocre if not for some rare and useful features.
First the bad: loose control panel feels cheap, buttons don’t always respond correctly. User commands are not intuitive – you must read the manual. Those might be fatal problems for some, but I’m willing to overlook them because I got it cheap on clearance, but even more:
The good: This player supports OGG Vorbis files!!!! I didn’t know any MP3 players supported OGG, let alone such a cheap one. OGG files deliver sound quality equal to cd audio – really! So if top sound quality matters to you, you can plug this player into your stereo and get cd quality, better than Mp3 files (at least to some people). As I write this review, I am listening to one of my favorite cd’s, in quality identical to the original.
Other pluses: A nice bright 1.8 inch screen that plays videos. And TXT files can be displayed, making this a sort of E-book reader. Also comes with a rechargeable battery. Those features are not usually found in this price range.
Probably best for gaadget freaks like me who can deal with its quirks and design flaws.

Budget mp3 player that doesn’t work as well as most other brands. There is a delay when pressing the buttons of up to 3 seconds before screen changes or other actions. Sometimes when pressing a button for one action (such as menu) it will bring up another action (such as volume). Due to the short battery life it is not worth the time it takes to push play (less than 5 songs per full charge). I made the mistake of researching this unit after buying it, apparently these issues are inherent with the Coby brand mp3 players.
However, it does play 2GB worth of songs if you are leaving it plugged into the computer (what’s the point of that?) or a USB compatible stereo. The color display does have good picture quality. I would recommend going with another brand.

this mp3 player is not worth it, its more of a hastle than anything else. The battery power is supposed to be 5 hours, but its not, its only like 45 minutes, then I was trying to charge it, charged it for 6 hours and the battery power went even lower. Also, it comes with a sticker to protect the screen, when I peeled the sticker off, it left a bunch of residue that I can’t seem to get off. The control buttons have already rubbed off, I was able to upload pictures but that left no room for music, I can’t seem to get the thing to play random songs, it always starts at the same place. I wanted a simple mp3 with fm but looks like I’m going to have to send this back suck it up and buy an Ipod.

This was the first MP3 player I bought. It is easy to load music, etc., onto, but the controls for the device are not very precise. When trying to change volumem, it changes tracks. This can be extremely annoying.

I really give this item 2 1/2 stars. I have a COBY which I really liked, but wanted something with more memory. This one is okay except that it keeps coming back to the same song and I find it difficult to call up the other cd’s I downloaded. My original coby has a built in usb port which is very convenient because there is no extra wire to use or lose. I like having an FM radio to listen to as an option and really wanted the upgraded version of my original coby which is advertised, but for some reason not available. For the price it works well enough if all you want is extra memory and a device that is inexpensive that you don’t want to worry about if you are traveling or jogging. All in all I am still getting used to it and haven’t tried any of the other features such as voice recording and book downloads.
