thats a line from Taboo “Would you let you in?”

  2. 19florydory00 says:

    I’m with Steve. I wouldn’t have let him in either. : )

  3. Shapersofthe80s says:

@stchristopher28 – The line from Taboo (1985-1987) was actually a line from the Blitz (1979-1981)… Read all about who’s really who in Worried About the Boy at Shapersofthe80s dotcom

@stchristopher28 – Hey, St Chris, I owe you an abject apology, me being such a know-all. You were absolutely right about the routine of holding a mirror up to a would-be guest coming from Taboo. Sue Tilley’s book about Leigh Bowery confirms it on page 54 – a tactic the greeter Mark Vaultier used to use (though never to me I’m pleased to say). AND I made a typo about the Blitz’s closing date: it should have said 1980, October. I blame the keyboard manufacturers… How sorry can I be?

  9. superstartash says:

Is the guy in the green jacket supposed to be Simon Le Bon? I’d believe it if it was – startling resemblence.

  10. Libby7 says:

I saw Taboo when it had just opened in a small-ish theatre and the Steve Strange character did use that line, however wasn’t it something Steve Strange *also* did at the Blitz? Wasn’t he notorious for holding up a mirror to would-be club-goers and saying some variation of the ‘would YOU let you in’ line.
Just to make it more confusing, the musical Taboo conflates events from two eras (the Blitz around 80-81 and some stuff from later in the 80′s) without making that fact clear.

watched it last night, can anyone tell me the soundtracks used in this film?

  12. jenwasverydrunk says:

  13. TrainmasterCurt says:

Was’nt Simon Le Bon in Duran Duran at this time and playing at the Rum Runner? Unless this is 1980 not 1981

  14. superstartash says:

    @TrainmasterCurt

yeh he was at uni in birmingham at the time, but he’s from hertfordshire, near london. you never know, he might’ve been down there that night :D

  15. Shapersofthe80s says:

@TrainmasterCurt – ON THIS DAY IN 1980 May 11 Simon le Bon auditions for Duran Duran in leopard-skin pink trousers. Heres an early video of DD many months later, playing their first single ♫ ♫ Planet Earth live to New Romantic dancers in the Rum Runner, the Birmingham nightspot where the band worked, John on the door, Nick deejaying, and Roger as busboy. Better click on my website to view the vid.

  16. Shapersofthe80s says:

@superstartash – Sorry Super, but no, none of the Durannies set a foot in the Blitz, ever. They were sitll being busboys in the Rum Runner in Birmingham. First time they met the Blitz Kids from London was when Spandau Ballet invaded their home territory to play a “secret date” at the Botanical Gardens in b/ham on Nov 14, 1980, when Spandau crashed on the floor of the promoter’s apartment afterwards! Gary Kemp tells the tale in his new autobiography.
